BBQ - Taiwan style

Another week has come to an end and the holidays are coming up (moon cake day and inde- pendence day) which means it's a five day weekend! Hurray! To start the celebrations my buddy Li-ting invited andreas and I to join her and her friends for a BBQ on Thursday. The invitation indicated it would be a fairly drab affair however it was quite the opposite. My buddy is very shy and so i expected her friends to be the same. At 6:45 two of her friends picked us up outside the dormatory and drove us inte to town on scooter (which i am now fairly comforatble with). We arrived at Love River which is a large river running smack through the middle of Kaohsiung. It has recently experienced a huge face lift to attract more tourists and thus Li-ting and her friends had selected a nice park for the bbq:ing. We ate all the normal stuff you would at a bbq and then some... We had the local specialities of chicken hearts and pigs blood mixed with rice followed by what they call "space mushrooms" (these however lack all hulicinogenic properties). The dinner was quite enjoyable and soon after eating the taiwanese cracked out some card decks and began playing bridge (which seems to be very popular here 8|) Finally we talked and laughed the evening away.
Another high point was the toilet in the park. As a public restroom there are many simul- taneous users which can make noises caused by "doing your business" a bit embarassing, especially i a culture where "face" is very important. The solution? A button that plays loud siren noise to cover the sound anyone might be making while doing there thing :D ... how cool isn't that!Oh well, now we are off to another BBQ organised by th school for exchange students and on saturday we are off to a local village to take the taiwanese manhood test, which as it happens is catching a wild boar with your bare hands. Hopefully i will be around on sunday to tell you how it went.

p.s: I already checked and my medical insurance is in place :D

Take care now... bye bye then

Take care! Pa
